Most NYC subway riders are pretty blasé when panhandlers hit them up for cash between stations. Each time a panhandler announced he was collecting funds to construct a period machine, riders chuckled in the odd request—until another man boarded the train and announced he was the inventor’s future self. He implored them to not give any money because time travel will ruin everything.

It sounds just of that sort X-Files episode (“Synchrony” ) where a scientist travels from the longer term to prevent his younger self from producing the cryobiological compound that could someday enable time travel. But it’s actually an elaborate prank by Improv Everywhere :

For our particular latest mission, we staged an elaborate time travel prank on the New York City subway car with four sets of identical twins. A man enters a subway car and announces He‘s raising money to finish his time machine. At subsequent stop, his future self enters to attempt to talk him out of them. Increasingly more time travelers convene upon the subway car like the train rolls along, surprising the random commuters caught up inside the middle.
This is actually the third time the troupe has used identical twins with their pranks. For 2008's “Human Mirror, ” they filled a subway car with 15 sets of identical twins. And in 2013, two sets of twins dressed as Marty McFly and his girlfriend, Jennifer, staged an elaborate To the Future prank. So combining the 2 into time travelers upon the subway seems as a natural progression.

The troupe staged the scene five times in total, all upon the N train. And in fact, they captured all of the fun on video :

You are able to read more how the prank played out here. But there’s a fascinating philosophical question in all this : would the riders’ future selves magically vanish, Looper-style, the minute the inventor resolves to not build his time machine in the end? source:http://gizmodo.com/four-sets-of-identical-twins-staged-a-time-travel-prank-1766206487
